this was originally titled in my drafts as "february perfume haul" but um somehow it's already APRIL? so despite the fact that i should really be doing something else right now (brainstorming how to quit my job) here is a much belated review of the perfume samples i got in feb!

feel the need to include some kind of context for the uninitiated/explain why i am the way i am:

  • i like to wear woody florals and pretty much little else SORRY. i would ideally like to be into fruit (how i wish to be a citrus wearer) but alas most fruity florals esp. those in popular designer fragrances go astringent and awful on my skin. also aquatics....
  • i prefer buying testers b/c i'm too broke to buy full bottles and also i never consistently use a scent enough to validate a full-size (though tamburins haystacks may be an exception). i usually retire a scent after a season
  • this haul is from luckyscent and they gave me jovoy's fire at will as a freebie.
  • all pics from the brands themselves

ok anyways let's get into it...

regimes des fleurs

toor toor

grapefruit, vetiver, tuberose

top: Grapefruit Rind, Violet Leaves, Vetiver Oil

heart: Tuberose Absolute, Vetiver Heart, Freesia

base: Ditax Wood, Vetiver Concentrate, Leather

reminds me of: green, summer, lakeside cabin

@/bewareofpity on tiktok had a viral video about the regimes des fleurs tears perfume and somehow that made its way into my algorithm....so i was influenced! i was mainly drawn to tears at first but i wanted to check out other stuff from rdf as well since i didn't think tears was super my thing. first sniff, i LOVED toor toor. it opens as very green to me, but it's cut with this spicyness that still feels clean. this one introduced me to vetiver and i think i really love it... i smelled vetiver on someone at work the other day and it projected amazingly so i could only hope this smells as good to other people as it does to me...

this is a Hot Girl Summer scent to me, though maybe more for daytime than night time. i wore it out to barhop with friends but had to scrub it off because it got a little too much with my already existing nausea at the time. out of all the rdf ones i got this time around, i would consider getting a full-size of this! sometimes i think it goes a little too spicy which i don't like but with a white shirt and jeans and freshly showered hair....so good. it's the most "unisex" of the scents i got from rdf this time around.

regimes des fleurs

little flower

pomelo, rose, gaiuac wood, musk

top: Blackcurrant Bud, Pomelo, Peony

heart: Ottoman Rose, Honeysuckle, Black Tea, Bleeding Heart

base: Palo Santo, Gaiuac Wood, Musk

reminds me of: "clean beauty," first date

this is a Conventionally Pretty Girl perfume. what i mean by this is that it's 1) generally pleasant and 2) not very memorable or interesting other than the fact that its overall affect of smell is Pretty. this is not to say i don't like it; actually i like it a lot. but since my general perfume philosophy is that perfume is an extension of who i want to be etc. i am too special snowflake syndrome to be disposed to wearing this because it doesn't really reflect the kind of image i want to project nor feel comfortable with (i.e. Pretty Girl). i think this a safe blind-buy if you're looking for something that's very easy to wear, like at work. the rose in this is extremely easy-going and not at all old-lady esque (but i'm also a fan of rose overall...)

regimes des fleurs

tears

lilac, frankincense, ambergris

top: Green Cognac, Pink Pepper, Mandarin Orange Flower

heart: Lilac, Orris, Olibanum, Frankincense

base: Ambergris, Musk

reminds me of: cold cream, powdery makeup, melancholy

sorry for the insane impressions note BUT YOU WOULD GET IT IF YOU SNIFFED IT. i go back and forth between finding this tolerable and just not liking it, so yeahhhh this one is not for me. as i mentioned, i found this through @/bewareofpity and i have to say her video is kinda accurate on the general affect of this perfume? it is strangely a very sad perfume, tho less "coquette" and more of an old woman looking at her vanity mirror moment ASHDBASHJ.

fragrantica reviews mention this being very quintessential lilac soap. i like lilac, but just not quite like this i think....the powderiness of it throws me off and i'd need more greenness i think to cut it. the search for lilacs continue...

zoologist

elephant

tree leaves, cocoa, incense, amber

top: Tree Leaves, Darjeeling Tea, Magnolia

heart: Cocoa, Coconut Milk, Incense, Jasmine, Woody Notes

base: Amber, Synthetic Musk, Patchouli, Sandalwood

reminds me of: korean taxis

erm ok so u know the smell of leather and cigarettes and taxis in general but also very specifically in korea and in a cab with the AC on...this is that. which sounds way more harrowing than it actually is. i bought this for shits and giggles and because i'm always interested in tea scents (srsly need to find the perfect earl grey scent that smells like harney & sons earl grey) but can't just do the obvious thing and try out armani's the yulong because jackson wang has unfortunately publicized that he wears it SADHJABSD. like why would he do that.

anyways back to zoologist....

me: haha i got a zoologist smell

@permutative: isn't that the brand with crazy ass smells

AHDJASBHJD. past the first whiff, which is very leather and incense-y, it just wholly becomes a cocoa and coconut smell with a musky base, so there really isn't much wrong with it other than the fact that it doesn't smell like tea at all to me. i would personally never wear this nor would i like a partner to smell like this but i will hold onto this forever for science.

eau d'italie

mystic sunset

jasmine, sugar cane, cedar

top: osmanthus, cassis

heart: jasmine, saffron

base: sugar cane, cedar

reminds me of: sunscreen

when i say sunscreen, i don't mean it in a bad way...per the description and name this is a very beach/sunset vibe scent. pretty uncomplicated notes that are overall pleasant. this reminds me of a tom ford's soleil blanc which is famously a sunscreen scent, but i like this way more. would i wear this....idk. it's pretty forgettable to me but i think i could wear it in a tropical beach setting, as intended.

also, got this for the jasmine in it, which i don't really? get? maybe i just don't have a good understanding/concept of jasmine...but yeah this is just a simple sweet floral. eh

jovoy

fire at will

mimosa, vanilla, amber

top: mimosa

heart: vanilla, brown sugar

base: musk, amber, vetiver

reminds me of: vanillaaaaa

this is a vanilla perfume in the simplest and most straightforward sense and it honestly does it fabulously. it's sweet and warm, but surprisingly not cloying. would i wear this...probably not just b/c i'm not a gourmand scents fan but if you are this should be on your sniff list. i hate saying sweet shit is not too sweet like i'm one of those annoying food tiktokers....but this really isn't not irritating sweet to the point of acidity and projects all the favorable qualities of vanilla. now that i'm looking at the notes maybe it's the vetiver...maybe i'm just vetiver fans usa....
