hellooo back again with a post on one of the few things that brings me joy these days: spending exorbitant amounts of money on skincare and makeup <3 blaming this on tiktok, etc.

my friend recently went to korea for spring break and, being the generous soul she is, got some stuff on my behalf! i also bought a few things from yesstyle...

olive young korea haul

skincare
  • ma:nyo cleansing oil: i haven't used this enough to figure out if it's life changing but so far i like it more than the softymo cleansing oil. the smell is very citrus-y and also earthy, but it grows on you. i like how it makes my skin super soft post-wash

  • round lab birch juice moisturizing sun cream: a repurchase! my fave sunscreen <3

makeup
  • espoir the brow balance pencil: nawt much to say other than the face shop eyebrow pencil i've been using for the past 5 years unceremoniously broke....i like the thin tip but it's going to take me some time to get used to how hard + thin it is. i think the packaging is great tho, very sleek. bought this in ash grey (for me) and cool grey (for my mom)

  • colorgram real all in one aegyosalm maker: the perfect addition to my eye routine! i've been contouring with mainly the too cool for school contour pact, but layering this underneath makes for the perfect base. it looks very natural and is good for acting as the base of under eye glitter looks.

  • fwee mellow blusher in sunshine guava: I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS BLUSH. truly my fave of all time now bc the jelly texture is soooo satisfying (it's supposed to be a hybrid between cream and powder blush). it has a squishy "jelly" texture which might not sound appealing but transfers so well onto the skin. amazing staying power and super vibrant color (sunshine guava is a warm bright pink that i think would work well with light to medium tones). i wanted to get this in the orange/apricot color as well (before blushing) because i saw minsco layering them in a swatch video but they didn't sell it in stores 😭 that will be another olive young haul (maybe for my bday... or grad gift to myself)

  • lashes: almost forgot but i've been having a moment with trying to find perfect lashes / getting good at doing the individual lashes thing...got this random set of three lashes that are really cute and natural looking and then a tok tok hara 11mm set! consensus is still out bc i'm researching....

yesstyle haul

makeup
  • rom&nd bare water cushion: the evil algorithm pattern of seeing the clio kitten cushion on tiktok > debating if i should buy it even tho it is prob too light for me > then thinking about how i haven't used a cushion in years (since my friend's mom gifted me so tfs my bag cushions in like hs) > suddenly deepdiving into the 2023 world of cushions.... anyways this came highly recommended by some youtubers and i think it lives up to the hype! it doesn't give much coverage, but i like the glowy texture, though i definitely would need to powder it down somewhat bc i have an oily face. i haven't worn it out so can't say much for staying power but it looks good in photos

  • rom&nd better than palette, glitter: i don't know if i like or regret getting this palette. i didn't realize that pretty much ALL of the shades in this were chunky, vaseline-y glitters (regrettably did not do much research on this) which are hard to work with (girl who won't invest in enough brushes). i have to play with this more to get a good technique down other than arbitrarily smearing it on the lid with my fingers (maybe vaseline + eyeshadow foam applicator?). also think someone with a different eye shape than mine (double eyelid but hooded) can get way more use out of this palette, but it'll be fun to use this on my friends who want me to do makeup for them <3

other misc thoughts
  • kosas concealer: okay. so i got on the bandwagon bc of tiktok (which is always a bad idea bc frankly ppl on tiktok sometimes give the worst recommendations ever) and i regret ittttt. not because of the whole mold controversy (btw some scientist person sent it to a lab to check out the claim and basically came to the conclusion that the smell came from the sunflower oil they use in the formula, which apparently goes rancid fast but doesn't affect the integrity of the formula, even past shelf life. which is reassuring i guess?) but guys. THIS IS JUST NOT A GOOD CONCEALER! psa never buy anything you swatch under sephora lights/mirrors. the way i was trying to gaslight myself for two months into liking this product bc i paid $28 for the full size 😭 this product might be good if u have a pretty extensive base and have plumper skin underneath your eyes but my undereye is very thin and sickly so u can imagine the creasing this thick ass formulation gave me. yes i have tried sunscreen AND the ordinary silicone primer. to the point where i gave up and switched back to the maybelline fit me concealer i got in korea (shade sand...which was their darkest shade btw...) and realized it worked better even tho it was $8. [psychic damage] anyways i'm still on the search for the perfect undereye routine while also aspiring towards the longterm goal of getting injections...if u have concealer recs that have thin formulations pls send them my way <3 also any color correctors...

  • lips: always obsessed with lip products and i use the rom&nd juicy lasting tint in nucademia literally everyday. but also does anyone else feel like they have no idea how to actually use the doe tip applicator esp w a glossy formula....need to experiment more on layering products but i just get so lazy. if i remember to, i might try out a lip pencil next.

  • colorpop: did some impulse target shopping in the past few months and bought 2 colorpop eye shadow palettes (peach and blue). i like the shade range, though in retrospect i have no use for the blue bc i'm not a cool tone person.....the peach one i found myself using a lot more but then i checked in my luggage when flying back from seattle AND THEY CRACKED IT 😭😭 only one of the shades is missing but it scattered into the other pans....anyways i think the shadows have too much fallout. i'm in the market for a new eye shadow palette bc the too faced i've been using for like the past 5 years is starting to hurt my eyes LMAO. based off my research i think i'll be purchasing the clio shade + shadow palette bc i want something with a dark brown/black for eyeliner layering purposes.
